While I was writing my book, I came across an amazing mother called Emma McDonald, who has helped set up a charity which saves Mothers lives ( I know, right.. Freaking Awesome!! This stuff makes me SO proud to be a woman.).
‘Send Hope Not Flowers‘ raises money for safe birth projects in the developing world. Did you know that in countries such as PNG and parts of Indonesia, one in 20 mothers will die from complications during childbirth? That’s one too many! 99% of these deaths are preventable with the right intervention. When babies are born here, in Australia, most often under the closely guarded care of a team of educated birthing professionals, the common celebratory gift is a beautiful bunch of flowers. While this is a lovely gesture (and hey, I love flowers as much as the next exhausted mumma), perhaps donating that money to go towards saving the life of a fellow new mother could be an alternative option…
This coming Mothers Day is the perfect chance to reach out in support of others. Instead of receiving a bunch of flowers or a box of chocolates, how about you ask your family for a ‘Send Hope Not Flowers‘ Mothers day card. Donations made in your honour will help save another mothers life. What a wonderful gesture on Mothers Day!

“Send Hope Not Flowers inspires other people to get involved – to contribute what they have to end these senseless maternal deaths. Together we can make pregnancy and childbirth safe for all moms.”
We are all mothers. I believe it’s our duty to look after each other. Right? xx
