I too, lost my mother to cancer in 2008 (and my Dad a few years before that) and it has left a huge whole in my life. I have four children although they are much older than yours appear to be, the youngest is now 19. I had one sister who died as a teenager and I had a very close relationship with both my parents, now I have lost them all. I read your blog today about a grateful heart, and finding your ‘happy place’ and it has struck such a chord with me, as I try and live in the moment and appreciate all that I have, as we never know what is around the corner. Unless you have experienced such loss, its hard to comprehend and appreciate the sadness that at times can be overwhelming, and having a ‘grateful heart’ is such a wonderful way of coping. I look forward to your book coming out and wish you every success. Thank you for your website, and for your uplifting message Kind Regards Maree Reply Leigh Van Der Horst December 8, 2014 - 11:03 pm Hi Maree, Thank you so much for your message. I agree, you have to experience true heart ache to learn life’s most important lessons, and in a funny way I am grateful for the lessons I have learnt. I hope you stick around and follow along, its all a process that I will continue to chip away at. All my love and best wishes for a wonderful Christmas xxxxxx Reply Neil Daniels May 15, 2017 - 2:51 pm Hi Leigh I read your piece in regards to Mothers Day with the emptiness you feel and the sense of loss you have leading up to this day. I lost my mother in 2013 to emphysema (Dad 2 years later to a broken heart). Mum had smoked as a young person, but when my children came along gave it away. However a bout of pneumonia and the possible damage done by smoking some 15 years beforehand meant her immunity system was fairly low and sadly she lost a long and sometimes painful battle. My reason for this message is that I am an adult male who, although your article and book are addressed towards woman, feels the same emotions and anxieties leading up what should be a special day, which I believe so many men do. I only wish there was a book or article written (like yours) that shows the sons side of losing their mother and how they feel on this day. Thankyou for the insight you shared. Reply Leigh Van Der Horst May 30, 2017 - 1:06 pm Hi Neil, thank you for your message. I often hear from men who echo what you have said and I think a book for specifically for men would be a great idea. I hope one day that will become available for you. I am sure it is just as tough an experience. X Reply Leave a Reply to Neil Daniels Cancel Reply This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed.
